Unpopular take: most "learn to code" advice is cope

The entire conversation around whether AI replaces developers is a misdirect. it is not replacing developers; rather, it is shifting the bar.

Five years ago you needed only enough skills to know syntax to get hired. the old gate is going away. what is opening now is a new bar requiring judgment, taste, understanding systems - all of which cannot be prompted into being in a weekend.

Thus both takes in this tweet thread are correct, but both are ignoring the truth that is too inconvenient to admit: the middle is evaporating. there is more opportunity than ever before for those who think, and less than ever before for those who could type quickly.

If that scares you, it should. figure out which you want to become.
